The Mammal Marine Center

The Mammal Marine center is situated at Pier 39 in California. The vocation of the Marine Mammal Center is to rescue sick animals. They help three kinds of animals; elephant seals, sea lions and harbor seals. 50% of the animals that they try to rescue actually survive. The Marine Mammal Center has a lot of objectives but the most important one is to return the animals to the sea as soon as possible to be sure that they will survive. And to survive, they have to not become too used to humans. However if the animals are not likely to survive on their own they are euthanized. Some are malnourished; others are injured by garbage in the ocean or have physical anormalities, and more and more are affected by demonic acid or contaminated by other toxic chemicals.

David Suzuki speaks!

For Suzuki, interconnectedness means that every people have consequences because they are all connected to nature and the environment they have to act in the right way with nature. In the past, humans performed rituals to prove that they were responsible for taking care of the environment. The media have to explain how things happen this way. They broadcast their information by internet, radio, newspaper and television. Humans are a super species. Four properties make it possible: they are the most numerous mammals on earth, they have powerful technology, they are hyper consumers and they have created their own habitat. We are the environment. Humans are made of four sacred elements: air, water, earth and fire. First of all, the air that we breathe connects all creatures to the past and the future. The air is created by photosynthesis. Secondly, we are water because 60% of our bodies is made up of water. Thirdly, the soil keeps us alive because everything starts from molecules and dust which are made from decomposed matter. Finally, if humans didn’t have oxygen, they wouldn’t have fire. They are fire because of the burning calories in the human body.

An endangered species: the Panda!

The main reason for panda’s extinction is the destruction of bamboo forests. In fact, bamboo is their principal food source; the problem is that it takes a long time to grow. When humans in Asia want to create industrial or agricultural areas, they have to destroy panda’s habitat. That’s why bamboo forests started to decline enormously. Proactive organizations have put pressure on Chinese government to sanction these acts in the reserved areas and want to expand these areas too. Pandas are endangered for a second reason: some people hunt them without knowing they are endangered and don’t care about the balance and well-being of the eco-system. Finally, the World Wildlife Foundation has made it possible for people to make a donation and adopt a symbolic panda bear and help it to be protected in the wild.
